Yippee, you’re nearing the end and getting close to meeting this new little person. Final preparations will need to be made and believe me, this last trimester actually flies!
You are definitely feeling your pregnancy and realizing it probably isn’t as glamorous as some people make it seem. You’ll notice all sorts of attractive things like stretch marks, swelling, and varicose veins. You may experience significant heartburn, back pain, sharp shooting vaginal pain, and contractions. Yikes!
An increase in mucousy discharge is normal but don’t confuse this for amniotic fluid which would be more watery; or for an infection which would usually be accompanied by thicker foul discharge with vaginal irritation, soreness or itching.
You may also notice occasional spotting or blood tinged mucous – also normal. Abnormal bleeding would be like a heavy menstrual flow, especially if it is associated with pain.
Non-labor type contractions occur irregularly and usually aren’t very uncomfortable. If you have more than 4-6 contractions in an hour that don’t improve with rest and hydration, and if you are preterm, you should go to labor and delivery to be checked for preterm labor. If you are term, you can wait until the contractions are every 5 minutes for at least an hour and getting stronger.
You may be getting up at night more often to pee and may have trouble sleeping. I always think that’s God’s way of getting us used to getting up with the baby.
Have you figured out how glamorous this is, yet? Stay strong…the reward is near. Soon you will be holding a sweet bundle of baby heaven in your arms and a piece of your heart will be unlocked like you have never known before.
